Qatar Calls for Reinforcement of Cooperation Between UN and Regional Organizations

New York, August 12 (QNA) -The State of Qatar has called for cooperation between regional organizations and the United Nations in order to achieve greater integration in the relationship between the UN Security Council and regional organizations and sub- regional organizations. It noted that this requires the provision of appropriate international climate to increase their capabilities and to enable them to work effectively, as stated in Chapter VIII of the Charter of the United Nations. This came in the statement delivered by HE Sheikh Mishaal bin Hamad Al Thani, the Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations before the meeting of the UN Security Council on cooperation between the United Nations and regional organizations and sub-regional organizations in maintaining international peace and security. HE Sheikh Mishaal noted that these organizations would be the front line of defense for the United Nations to help resolve regional problems and prevent their expansion as they pose a threat to international peace and security. These organizations would further reinforce the United Nations efforts in other areas, particularly the issue of development, he added . HE Sheikh Mishaal bin Hamad Al Thani underlined Qatar's commitment as a member of the Arab League and the United Nations to move forward in support of the United Nations in all efforts that contribute to the strengthening of the relationship among regional organizations in order to address the crisis and to reach a peaceful settlement of disputes. He also highlighted the efforts made by the State of Qatar over the past years to ease tensions in a number of countries that have experienced conflict, in order to avoid and prevent wars and serious armed conflicts that could pose a threat to international peace and security in the region and the world, expressing Qatar's pride of the UN Security Council recognition of this role.(QNA)
