BAKU HOSTS CONFERENCE OF “ALLIANCE OF UNIVERSITIES FOR DEMOCRACY” INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATION
Baku, 10 November,(AzerTAj) - The 28th annual conference of the international organization “Alliance of Universities for Democracy” titled “Role of Universities in civil society” started on November 9 in Azerbaijan University of Languages (AUL).
About 50 delegates from US, Ukraine, Romania, Bulgaria, Lithuania and Russia, MPs,
representatives of the state structures, international organizations, ambassadors of
foreign countries, rectors of Azerbaijani Universities attend the event.
President of the Alliance of Universities for Democracy Organization John Ryder
expressed his satisfaction with conducting a conference in Baku and wished success
the conference participants.
Rector of AUL, Chairman of the Standing Commission for International and
Interparliamentary Relations of Milli Majlis (Azerbaijan Parliament) Samad Seyidov
gave the detailed information about activity of the University and its international
relations. Mr. Seyidov underlined that aim of the conference is to exchange
experience with the foreign and local specialists, raise the role of Universities in
the civil society.
US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Mrs. Anne Derse, employee of Azerbaijan`s Ministry of
Education Ilham Pirmamedov and others told of significance of the conference and
the existing problems. It was noted that up to now, Azerbaijan`s Ministry of
Education implemented 14 programs and put into commission 1500 secondary schools in
the country over the past three years.
International organization “Alliance of Universities for Democracy”, which unites
the world`s 70 leading Universities was founded in 1990.
