BATAM IMMIGRATION REFUSES ENTRY OF 1,902 FOREIGNERS

Batam, Nov 11 (ANTARA) - The Batam immigration office has until September this year refused entry into the country of 1,902 foreigners who wanted to visit Indonesia through Batam, an immigration official said.

Head of the Batam Immigration Office Dirman Sukardi said here on Tuesday most of the rejected foreigners were Indian and Singaporean citizens.

The number of foreigners rejected entry in 2008 showed an increase from that in 2007 which reached 1,003 foreigners, he said.

"Among the reason for the rejection is that their passports only expire for less than six months," Sudirman said.

Besides, they did not have return flight tickets and had no clear purposes in visiting Indonesia, he added.
