CONJOINED TWIN'S PARENTS OPTIMISTIC OPERATION WILL BE SUCCESSFULL
Surabaya, E Java, Nov 11 (ANTARA) - Parents were optimistic that the surginal separation on Yovansa Frenando, the incomplete conjoined twin of Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara, at Dr Soetomo General Hospital here Monday, would be successful.
Yovansa's father, Yosep Elik (26) was optimistic the surgery would be a succeess . "God does not sleep, I'm sure that this operation will succeed," he said.
Yosep said that before the operation he and his wife Yenny Elik (23) were not nervous nor scared if anything bad would happen.
However, as human beings they can only leave it to God. "I'm fully ready and will accept whatever happens," said Yovansa's mother.
She would hold a ceremony expressing gratitude at their home town, Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara, if the separation was successful, she said.
The head of the surgical team dr. Agus Harianto said that the conjoined twin operation was conducted at around 8 a m local time.
"The operation went smoothly, because everything has been well prepared," he said.
The Yovansa twin has met the conditions for the operation, as she has reached the age of four months and weighs four kilograms. The surgical team consists of 50 doctors and nurses.
On the risk of the separation of the "parasite", Yovansa is prone to profuse bleeding and infection. The operation lasted up 6 hours.
The conjoined twin is the daughter of Yosep Elik and Yenny Elik, born June 19, 2008, at 11 p.m local time. The baby was taken to Dr Soetomo General Hospital on July 2, 2008.
