TWO OF SEVEN ESCAPED DETAINEES IN W JAVA REARRESTED

Bandung, Nov 10 (ANTARA) - Two of seven detainees who escaped from a Sukabumi police detention center recently have been rearrested while five others remain at large, West Java Police Chief Insp Gen Timur Pradopo said here on Monday.

"Two of them have been rearrested and five others remain missing but we already know where they are hiding," Pradopo said, adding that the seven detainees escaped on Saturday, Nov 8, 2008, after sawing off some of the iron bars of their cell.
Pradopo said the seven escapees were identified as Deni Hermawan, Ayat Sudradjat, Heru Khoerusin, Asep Saprudin, Adriansyah, Junaedi, and Mahyudin, but he refused to mention the identities of the two rearrested ones.
They were detained for their alleged involvement of drug and theft cases.
He expressed hope that the five others would soon be rearrested by a West Java Police joint team, deployed to hunt them.
Pradopo said he was still waiting for the latest report from the joint team which was expected to rearrest the five others.
The West Java police chief called on the regional unit police to take a lesson from the incident and then try to prevent it from happening again in the future.
