Vodafone Qatar to Boost Capacity, Says New CEO

Doha, July 28 (QNA) - Vodafone Qatar plans to boost capacity, improve coverage and roll out 4G services, the top executive of Qatar's second telecom operator said Sunday. In a media statement released today, Vodafone Qatar's new Chief Executive Officer Kyle Whitehill said, "We plan further capacity, coverage improvements and the roll out of 4G services in the next phase as our relentless pursuit of network excellence continues." During Vodafone's short time in Qatar, the competition we have bought has undoubtedly led to better value products and improved services for customers, he said. "We will promote our capabilities as a business services provider giving businesses in Qatar an alternative choice. Ultimately, we want to deliver great returns to the Qataris who own more than 70% of the Company, building a sense of pride in having invested in Vodafone Qatar," said Whitehill. Whitehill last week officially joined as CEO of Vodafone Qatar. Commenting on Whitehill's appointment, Vodafone Qatar Chairman Dr Sheikh Khalid bin Thani Al Thani said, "I and the entire Board of Vodafone Qatar would like to welcome Kyle and look forward to working with him to take Vodafone Qatar to new strengths. "I am sure that Kyles long telecommunications experience especially his deep experience in Enterprise and Fixed Line Services will ensure the continued success of Vodafone in Qatar." A CEO with more than 30 years experience, Whitehill joins Vodafone Qatar from Vodafone Ghana where he was CEO. Under his leadership, Vodafone Ghana became the second largest telecom operator in Ghana and grew the subscriber base from two million to over five million. Whitehill has worked for Vodafone Group since 2001 and has previously held a variety of senior roles including Enterprise Business Unit Director in the UK and Chief Operating Officer in India. Speaking about his new assignment, Whitehill said, "I am delighted to be in Qatar and thoroughly looking forward to my new life here along with my family. I truly admire Qatar's 2030 National Vision and Vodafone Qatar is committed to providing world class telecommunications infrastructure to support this forward looking vision." Vodafone Qatar switched on its mobile network on March 1, 2009. The telecom operator launched fibre-based consumer and enterprise fixed-line services commercially in October 2012. It will further expand its fibre services in conjunction with Qnbn deployment of Fibre to Homes and Corporates, the company said. (QNA)
