Federation Welcomes Home Squash Star Al Tamimi

Doha, July 24 (QNA) - Qatar Squash Federation (QSF) officials and fans warmly welcomed home junior star player Abdullah Al Tamimi who performed exceedingly well against more experienced players at the WSF World Junior Squash Championships held in western Poland's largest city Wroclaw. Top officials, family members and fans received Al Tamimi at the Doha International Airport Tuesday. QSF Secretary General Talal Al Mawlawi, QSF board member Mohammed Al Kholaifi and others were present at the airport to receive the talented young player. Aspire Academy squash gradudate, Al Tamimi finished fourth in a competitive field of 128 top international squash players. The Qatari enjoyed a super run of 15 matches during which he beat Egyptian Osama Khalid in the last 16 and England's Richie Fallows in the quarter-finals. His impressive run, however, was halted by Egyptian top seed Fares Mohamed Dessouki in the semi-finals. Al Tamimi is the first Qatari to reach the last four of the event. Aspire Squash Head coach Geoffrey Hunt said, "He probably played a little below his best form in this and subsequent 3-4 playoff but overall I was very proud of his efforts having finished better than his seeding position. There is no doubt he has elevated his squash to a new level during this tour which is a great sign for his future as a professional player." Another Aspire player Azlan Amjad, who was playing in his first World Junior Championship, started very well by winning his first round in straight games. His second round opponent was Fallows and although he tried hard he was outplayed 3-0. He then went into the Special plate where he encountered Guatemalan number one Josue Enriquez and lost a very close match. (QNA)
