WB, EU support Yemen's fishery projects

SANA'A, Nov. 09 (Saba)-Minister of Fishery Wealth Mohammad Shamlan held talks on Sunday with the delegations of the World Bank and of the European Union over their support for carrying out fishery projects.

The meeting dealt with carrying out the National Strategy for Fishery Wealth to be
financed by donors and random fishing in governorates of Mahra, Hudeida and
Hadramout that led to retreat in lobster and shrimp reserve.

Minister Shamlan made it clear that the ministry has taken a number measures for
protecting fishery wealth, especially shrimp and lobster. These measures included
commitment to regulations, specifications and systems made by specialized
consultants in the fifth fishery project, asserting importance of strengthen
cooperation between Yemen and both the World Bank and the European Union for
setting regulations for protecting important fish.

For his part, acting director of the World Bank branch in Yemen Naji Abu Hatem
indicated that the aim of the field visits is to get acquaintance with targeted
locations assigned for projects under constructions and following up works included
in the plan.
