MANPOWER MINISTER SEES OFF INDONESIAN DELEGATION TO ASC
Jakarta, Nov 9 (ANTARA) - Manpower and Transmigration Minister Erman Suparno Sunday saw off a 82-strong Indonesian delegation to the seventh ASEAN Skills Competition (ASC) to be held in Kuala Lumpur on November 10-19.
The minister saw off the delegation at a hotel in Jakarta with the participants reading a pledge of fighting spirit and kissing the red-and-white flag in procession, the Manpower and Transmigration Ministry said in a press statement.
ASC which is a venue of skills competition among younger generations in the Southeast Asian region is a follow-up to the joint communique issued at the 10th meeting of ASEAN manpower ministers held in Singapore in May 1994. The meeting agreed to hold such a competition once every two years.
The holding of ASC is expected to enable ASEAN younger generations to increase the quality and productivity of human resources in the region, improve the competitive edge of ASEAN and foster the solidarity and brotherhood among ASEAN member countries.
The Indonesian delegation consists of competition participants, a technical team, an expert team, a secretariat team and observers. The participants will compete in 19 contests including electrical installation, megatronics, industrial electronic configuration, webbing cabinet making, automobile technology, information technology, web design, computer art driving and design, graphic design, restaurant service, cooking, ladies' dress-making, and spa therapy.
The Indonesian delegation will leave for Kuala Lumpur on Monday.
