Both Lankan govt and LTTE should come forward for talks: CM
Chennai, Nov 9 (PTI) Brushing aside P.M.K.'s criticism of
his stand on ceasefire in Sri Lanka, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister
M Karunanidhi on Sunday said both the island government and
the Liberation Tigers of tamil Ealam (L.T.T.E.) should come to
the negotiating table to bring about a truce.
"The war could be ended only if both the parties agree
for the ceasefire," he reiterated at a marriage function here.
"If the bride and bridegroom exchange garlands, the
marriage is solemnised. Similarly, the ceasefire in Sri Lanka
can be ensured only if both the parties agree for it. If one
party declares ceasefire, it does not mean total ceasefire. It
should happen both ways," he said.
P.M.K. leader Dr. S.Ramadoss had criticised Karunanidhi
for mooting such a proposal and accused him of forgetting the
resolution, passed at the all-party meeting on the Sri Lankan
issue, which had urged the Centre to take steps to bring about
a ceasefire in Sri Lanka. PTI VIJ
