Hanoi gets donations to overcome flood aftermath
Hanoi (VNA) - Philanthropists and businesses on Nov. 9 donated 1.35 billion
VND to Hanoi 's natural disaster fund to help citizens overcome the
aftermath of the recent torrential rain and consequent floods that hit the
city for nearly a week.
The rain, believed to be the heaviest over the past two decades, damaged
more than 56,000 ha of winter crops, killed more than 72,400 livestock and
cattle, and inundated 9,700 ha of fish farms and 2,380 ha of paddy fields in
the city.
Consequent floods stranded communications in many parts of the city and
heavily affected citizens' life and business activities.
Hanoi authorities estimated that rain and floods cost the city more than
3 trillion VND and called on State offices, businesses and philanthropists
to contribute more to the municipal natural disaster fund.-Enditem
