EXECUTION OF AMROZI ET AL TO FULFILL FEELING OF JUSTICE: PDI-P
Jakarta, Nov 9 (ANTARA) - Member of the Indonesian Democratic Party (PDIP) faction in the House of Representatives (DPR), Andreas H Pareira, said that the execution of Amrozi et al was carried out in an effort to enforce the law and to fulfill the feeling of justice of the victims' family members.
"The execution of the Bali bombers should have been carried out for the sake of law enforcement on the despicable behavior of the convicts," Pareira, who is also member of the DPR's Commission I which deals with defense, foreign and information affairs, said.
He made the remarks following the executions of Amrozi, Mukhlas and Imam Samudra, who had been in the death row since 2003, by a firing squad in Nusakambangan, Cilacap district, Central Java, at the wee hours on Sunday.
Besides for the sake of law enforcement, Pareira said, the execution was also carried out in order to provide feeling of justice for the victims and their family members.
"It is important for the government to provide the feeling of justice to the victims because it is a matter which has political, social and economic impacts," Pareira said.
The Indonesian tourism sector, particularly Bali, was affected for a long time that had caused a decline in the income of many people.
"Socially and politically, the Bali bombing has drawn the attention of the world on us and the execution of its culprits would have good impact on the country," he said.
Bali bombers, Amrozi, Mukhlas alias Ali Ghufron and Imam Samudra, who had been death-row convicts since 2003, were executed by a firing squad in Cilacap district, Central Java, at the wee hours on Sunday.
Amrozi, Mukhlas and Iman Samudra were on death row for their roles in the bombings in Bali in October 2002 that left more than 200 people dead including 88 Australian tourists.
