Larijani: Mideast policies should change

Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani in meeting with British Ambassador Jeffery Adams here Saturday referred to the current developments in the region and international arena and said it is necessary that policies in the region change.

According to the Majlis Media Department, Larijani underlined necessity of global cooperation to fight against terrorism and drug smuggling and pointed out, "Iran has always paid a heavy price for preventing drug smuggling from its borders but is ready to cooperate with the European Union (EU) in this concern.

The speaker referred to the commonalities between Iran and the EU and underscored Iran's readiness for cooperation in these issues.

Larijani stressed, "Exchanging parliamentary delegations and holding dialogues between parliaments is very effective in developing ties" adding talks between parliaments have an important role in the common understanding and expanding all-out relations."

The British ambassador, for his part, expressed hope that ties between parliaments of Iran and Britain would expand more.

He referred to the common interests of Britain and Iran in the region and called for more cooperation between the two countries in the fight against drug smuggling.

Concerning the latest presidential elections in the USA, Jeffery Adams expressed hope that it creates new developments in the region.

The ambassador, at the end, called for removing ambiguities and expansion of relations between London and Tehran./end
