Plans to populate uninhabited island of Socotra archipelago
SOCOTRA, Nov. 08 (Saba) - The General Authority for Promotion and
Development of the Archipelago of Socotra plans to conduct study on
the possibility of brining people to the uninhabited island of
Derseh, one of the archipelago islands.
The state-run althawra.net quoted director general of the authority
Yahya Mubarak Saeed as saying a team will arrive in the island to
find out living factors on the island as well as if it is possible
for human and livestock to live at the Derseh island.
Saeed noted that the plans come in a move to develop the archipelago
and attracting investments into it.
On the other hand, president Ali Abdullah Saleh has ordered to buy
a boat that can carry 50-60 ton loads in an effort to bring food
stuffs and fuel to the archipelago, he said.
Recently, the authority bought a boat for communication among the
archipelago islands, he added.
Some projects are under construction in the archipelago including a
desalination project with support from the Czech republic being
implemented in the archipelago's second largest island Abdul Kori,
he said, adding modern communication means would be brought in the
island soon.
