YOUNGEST BROTHER OF TWO BALI BOMBERS NOW IN NUSAKAMBANGAN
Cilacap, Indonesia, Nov 8 (ANTARA) - Ali Fauzi, the youngest brother of deathrow convicts Amrozi and Mukhlas, is currently at the Batu state penitentiary on Nusakambangan island where the Bali bombers are being held, sources said.
The sources said Fauzi had arrived in Nusakambangan on Saturday by helicopter from Yogyakarta. Reporters missed his arrival as they thought he would come by land.
Amrozi's nephew, Sumarno, confirmed by phone to newsmen that Ali Fauzi was at the Batu penitentiary. "I heard about it but I cannot as yet tell you where exactly he is now," he said.
Sumarno said Fauzi came to Nusakambangan based on a family agreement to take care of his brothers' bodies as they had to be bathed, dressed and prayed for after their execution.
He said he had had difficulty contacting Fauzi as the latter's cellphone was inactive while family members in Lamongan, East Java, wanted to monitor developments at the prison in Nusakambangan.
"I think, we were compelled to send someone to Nusakambangan to meet execution procedures," he said.
Amrozi, Mukhlas and Iman Samudra are on death row for their roles in the bombings in Bali in October 2002 that left more than 200 people dead including many Australian tourists. They are currently waiting to be executed at Nusakambangan.
The Attorney General's Office had recently said the execution would be carried out early November but until now the exact date of the execution has not been made public.
