First International Conference on Contemplating the Quran Begins

Doha, July 02 (QNA) - The First International Conference on Contemplating the Quran got underway in Doha with the participation of 200 prominent scholars and thinkers in Quranic topics from 30 countries. The conference, which is organized by the World Society for Quran Contemplation (Tadabbur) in collaboration with the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, seeks to present a global vision and new innovative ideas about Quran contemplation and how to instill the concept of Quran contemplation in Muslim Ummah, as well as mechanism of using it in dealing with issues facing contemporary Muslim world, in addition to discussing strategies to advance Muslims through Quran contemplation. Addressing the opening ceremony, HE Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Dr Ghaith bin Mubarak Al Kuwari valued highly the importance attached by HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, and HH the Father Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani to the Holy Quran and the revival of its sciences in the service of Islam and the Muslim Ummah. Dr Al Kuwari said out of this great importance and in accordance with the sublime directives the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs decided to sponsor all efforts aimed to revive Quran contemplation and memorization in compliance with the Sunna of Allah's Messenger PBUH (The best among you are those who learn the Quran and teach it). He also said that the conference is an opportunity to contemplate in Holy Quran, which numerous researchers, thinkers and scholars are still working on the translation of its meaning and exploring its Quranic miracles.    He added that the Holy Quran is still a prime focus in research and translation, terminology and concepts, education, ethics, politics and law among others, adding that Quran is inexhaustible treasure. HE the minister said adherence to Quran is linked to the correct understanding of it, noting that this understanding requires knowledge of the Arabic language. He pointed to the influence of modern technology such as the Internet on spreading Quran and coming up with new ways to facilitate the process of memorizing it. He added that scholars must benefit from this new reality of modern technology in order to invent new ways of teaching Quranic facts and issue research papers that address suspicions raised by "enemies of Islam." For his part, Sheikh Dr. Nasser bin Suleiman Al-Omar pointed to challenges facing the Muslim Ummah and its efforts to come back to Quran, pointing to the growing number of Quran memorizing centers, readers and memorizers who count in the millions. Al-Omar said that thanks to a selection of experts on Quran sciences, the Muslim Ummah has made a great advances in taking care of the Holy Quran by scientifically spreading it through organizing scientific forums and conferences on Quranic studies. A number of the attendees addressed the audience, pointing to the significance of the conference and the efforts of Qatar in serving the Quran and taking care of Islam and Muslims all over the world.
