Chandrayaan-1 to enter lunar orbit today
Bangalore, Nov 8 (PTI) In one of the most crucial
manoeuvres since the launch of India's maiden moon mission,
Chandrayaan-1, Indian Space Research Organisation (I.S.R.O.)
scientists are slated to inject the spacecraft into the lunar
orbit Saturday.
"The lunar orbit insertion (L.O.I.) will start around 5
p.m. and last around 800 seconds," I.S.R.O. spokesperson S
Satish told PTI here.
Once the operation is completed, it will be in a 7,500 km
X 500 km elliptical orbit around the moon.
"It (Chandrayaan-1) will enter the moon's orbit. It will be
captured by lunar gravity," Satish said.
Chandrayaan-1 was launched from the spaceport of
Sriharikota on October 22.
