Advisor highlights Ahmadinejad's felicitations to Obama
President Advisor, Hamid Molana, on Saturday highlighted felicitations of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to US president-elect, Barack Obama.
He said that it was in deed a congratulation to the American people.
Molana, a professor of International Relations who has worked with major American and European universities during the past 50 years, said that the president's congratulations to Obama was a sign of his "positive approach to the United States."
President Ahmadinejad has actually felicitated the American people. This is a sign of his respect to the vote of the US people, Molana said.
Noting that the message was a "positive step taken in line with the government's comprehensive diplomacy," Molana added, "President Ahmadinejad has positive diplomacy."
He said that Obama has not started his work officially as the president of the United State yet.
Molana added that his victory was an "important event." Obama's inauguration will be held on January 20, 2009.
"His victory is an important event and an opportunity for both the Americans and the international community," Molana said.
Obama, a 47-year-old Illinois senator, was elected as the US 44th president winning 349 Electoral College votes, which are awarded state by state, smashing past the magic number of 270 needed for victory.
His Republican rival, John McCain, had just 163 electoral votes, according to several estimates.
This is the first time in the US history that an African-American is elected as the president.
Felicitating Obama for his victory , President Ahmadinejad hoped for basic and clear changes in Washington's foreign and domestic policies.
"I hope you will prefer real public interests and justice to the never ending demands of a selfish minority and seize the opportunity to serve people so that you will be remembered with high esteem," said the Iranian president.
He said, "Other nations also expect war-oriented policies, occupation, bullying, contempt of nations and imposing discriminatory policies on them to be replaced by advocating justice, respect for human rights, friendship and non-interference in other countries' internal affairs."/end
