Qatar Echoes Commitment to International Drug Combating
New York, June 26 (QNA) - Qatar has reiterated its commitment to contribute to joint international efforts to deal with the issue of drugs in the world based on the ground of mutual responsibility.
In a statement to the high-level meeting held at the initiative of Qatar, Italy and Thailand on the occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse, HE Qatar's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Sheikh Mishaal bin Hamad Al Thani said Qatar has ratified the international treaties to control drugs, stressing that Doha has spared no effort in implementing their provisions, which establish a framework and an international strategy to respond to the fight against drug abuse and trafficking.
Speaking at the meeting that was attended by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Sheikh Mishaal bin Hamad Al Thani announced that Qatar will host the 13th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, which will take place in 2015.
HE the permanent representative pointed to the joint project between Qatar and Italy's San Patrignano center to provide the best in services for victims of drug addiction so as to benefit from its four-decade old experience in drug awareness, prevention, treatment, rehabilitation and research.
Concluding his address, Sheikh Mishaal reaffirmed the necessity of sustainable mass efforts to tackle the problem of drugs all over the world. (QNA)
