Heavy-rains affected families in Hadramout to receive food
SANA'A, Nov. 07 (Saba)- Hadramout governor Salem al-Khanbashi has
said that the assessment committees finalized works of registering
damages in the governorate which were resulted from
flooding.Al-Khanbashi said that the food materials would be
distributed to the affected families by food supplying cards within
few coming days.
He added that the sum of YR 20 billion, which was adopted by the
government in response to directives of President Ali Abdullah
Saleh- would be used to rebuild infrastructure and houses, which
have been damaged due to floods.
The new housing units would be build far from way of floods, he said.
He pointed out to the current affords done to reduce environment
impacts in the governorate due to death of livestock, and spread
insecticide to protect people from diseases.AH
WB: floods' damages in eastern area reach nearly $1 billion
SANA'A, Nov. 07 (Saba) - A survey conducted by the World Bank (WB)
has estimated that the initial costs of the damages in governorates
of Hadramout and Mahrah reach nearly $ 1 billion.
The survey reported that the damages were in several sectors,
particularly in roads, health, water and agriculture.
The United Nations also carried out another survey estimating
initially the urgent relief needs in the two governorates.
The UN has said that it would coordinate with the governmental
bodies that have conducted damages and needs estimation surveys and
present a report includes the overall results in a week.
Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Abdul-Karim
al-Arhabi called, during a meeting gathered the government and
donors on Thursday for discussing results of evaluating
floods-damages in eastern area, on donors to enhance their
assistance to Yemen to face consequences of the rainstorm that has
caused great damages in the infrastructure projects and the public
and private properties.
Minister of Public Health and Population Abdul Karim Rase'a reviewed
during the meeting the estimate and precautionary measures taken in
the affected areas.
For his part, Minister of Public Works and Roads also asserted on
providing funds needed for starting the reconstruction process in
these areas, noting that all the roads devastated because of floods
have been opened.
