BPK ESTABLISHES COOPERATION WITH NORWEGIAN AUDIT0R GENERAL

London, Nov 7 (ANTARA) - The State Audit Agency (BPK) has established cooperation with the Auditor General of Norway as marked with signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Oslo, the Swedish capital.

The MoU was signed by BPK chairman Prof Dr Anwar Nasution and his Norwegian counterpart Jurgen Kosmo, Indonesian ad interim charge `d affaires in Oslo Mansyur Pangeran said here on Thursday evening.

The cooperation in public sector auditing will among other things cover an agreement on an exchange of experienced experts on auditing and making a joint auditing research project in addition to an agreement on exchange of knowledges and experiences by way of mutual consultations and seminars on public sector-related issues.
The cooperation will be effective in two years since its signing and could be renewed.

In his speech, Jorgen Kosmo said Norway regarded various efforts to preserve the environment, public health, poverty eradication and international cooperation under the auspices of the UN as important.

He also expressed appreciation to Indonesia for the breakthrough in fostering cooperation with his agency as the first time in the history of the company in the auditing sector and building cooperation at international level.

It was said Indonesia had invited Norway to participate in making an audit of international funds and donations for tsunami disaster victims and projects in Aceh.

Hopefully, the cooperation could be further developed in the future covering other fields as well.

In the meantime, Prof Dr Anwar Nasution said since 1997 BPK has taken steps designed at creating a clean government and achieving significant results.

With the signing of MoU, auditors of the two countries could mutually conduct studies, including the handling of corruption cases, tax embezzlement, state company privatization as well as issues on environment and health care.

After the signing of MoU, Anwar delivered a lecture on combating corruption in Indonesia since 1997.
