CUT IN PREMIUM GASOLINE PRICE BASED ON AVAILABLE BUDGET: OFFICIAL

Jakarta, Nov 7 (ANTARA) - The reduction of subsidized premium gasoline price which will be effective on December 1, 2008, will be made based on the availability of budget, a senior Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry official said.

"The reminder of this year's budget is only enough to lower the price of subsidized premium gasoline beginning on December 1, 2008," Director General for Oil and Gas Affairs Evita Legowo said.
Finance Minister Sri Mulyani announced on Thursday evening the lowering of premium gasoline price from Rp6,000 to Rp5,500 per liter effective December 1, 2008.
Legowo said that the government would make adjustments to subsidized fuel oil prices each month based on the developments of world crude oil prices.
Previously, Evita Legowo said that the realization of subsidized budget up to October this year had reached Rp130 trillion, exceeding the subsidy target set at the 2008 revised budget at Rp126 trillion.
The director general said that fuel oil subsidy would increase by Rp3 trillion if subsidized fuel price was cut by about Rp500-Rp800 per liter this year.
The government during the administration of president Megawati Soekarnoputri also once lowered fuel oil prices on January 21, 2003.
The prices were lowered in the face of demonstrations following its decision to raise them on January 2, 2003.
