GOVT PLANNING TO EVALUATE FUEL PRICES EVERY MONTH

Jakarta, Nov 7 (ANTARA) - The government is planning to evaluate the prices of fuel oil particularly subsidized one every month to better adjust them to global oil prices, an Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry official said.

Eva Legowo, the ministry's director general of oil and gas, unveiled the government's plan in a discussion at the Regional Representative Council (DPD) building here on Friday.
The government has decided to cut the price of subsidized gasoline by Rp500 to Rp5,500 a liter effective December 1, 2008. The decision is based on global crude prices in recent weeks.
The government last raised fuel oil prices by an average of 27.8 percent last May in response to a surge in global crude prices.
Eva said if one month after December 1 the global crude prices rose, the prices of subsidized fuel oil would be raised accordingly.
But if the global crude prices fell again, the government would study the possibility of lowering further the prices of subsidized fuel oil, she said.
"We hope the people will be aware of the decision to raise again the prices of subsidized fuel oil if the global crude prices increase. But if the prices are stable like now there will not be another rise in fuel oil prices," she said.
With the price of subsidized gasoline standing at Rp6,000 a liter, the government actually gave a subsidy of Rp300 a liter, she said.
