INDONESIAN WOMAN HAJJ PILGRIM DIES DURING PRAYERS IN MOSQUE
Medina , Saudi Arabia, Nov 7 (ANTARA) - An Indonesian female hajj pilgrim from Bekasi, West Java, Aniah bin Abdul Shamad (52), died during prayers at Nabawi mosque in Medina early Friday morning local time in the first such case among Indonesian pilgrims this year.
"We had just arrived in Medina at about 21:00 and were about to check in at our accommodations while watching over our luggage when we heard azzan (a call to perform prayers). Then my elder sister (Aniah) asked us to accompany her in prayers first at Nabawi mosque," said Dawiah, Aniah's younger sister.
Aniah, Dawiah and their sister Saniah who had come to Saudi Arabia in the first hajj pilgrim flight group from Jakarta, then went down from the fourth floor of the building where they were accommodated by a lift to the Nabawi mosque for prayers.
"During the prayer service, I noticed that Aniah had remained in a prostrate position and seemed unable to get up. Then, after the prayer, I tried d to help her get up but it was useless as she had already passed way," Dawiah said.
"After that, I called the police to check on my dying sister," Dawiah further said while sobbing.
The police immediately rushed Aniah to Anshary hospital in Medina and contacted the Indonesian hajj task force to help her two sisters in obtaining a death certificate.
Aniah was the first Indonesian pilgrim to pass away during this year's hajj pilgrimage in the Holy Land.
