Three former WA ministers face charges
(AAP) Two former West Australian ministers will be charged with corruption and another with giving false testimony, the WA Corruption and Crime Commission (CCC) says.
The CCC said four people, the three ministers and a former chief of staff in a
minister's office, together faced 15 charges following CCC investigations into
lobbying and allegations of misconduct by public officers.
The charges relate to investigations into Smiths Beach, south of Perth, land
rezoning at Whitby in Perth's southeastern outskirts, and lobbying around the
pearling industry.
CCC director of operations Nick Anticich said the matters were dealt with at public
hearings held by the commission between October 2006 and February 2007.
Two of the ministers and the chief of staff face charges of corruption and giving
false testimony, while the other minister faces charges of giving false testimony
before a commission hearing.
Mr Anticich said the commission referred the evidence to the Director of Public
Prosecutions before the charges were laid.
Those charged were to appear in Perth Magistrates Court on December 12.
