HE Sheikha Mayassa Meets Sheikh Mohamed Al Thani, the First Qatari to Conquer Mount Everest

Doha, June 09 (QNA) - HE the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Qatar Museums Authority and President of Qatar Museum of Islamic Art Sheikha Mayassa bint Hamad Al-Thani met at noon today with HE Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdullah bin Mohamed bin Ali Al-Thani, Goodwill Ambassador of the Reach Out To Asia Foundation (ROTA) and the first Qatari to conquer the summit of Mount Everest, the world's highest peak, at an altitude of 8850 meters, in recognition of this achievement and in support for sport and athletes. HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Thani handed over HE Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al Thani, the ROTA flag which he hoisted on the top of Everest. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah bin Mohamed bin Ali Al-Thani said in a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) that he sought through this achievement to raise the name of the State of Qatar at the highest peak in the world, stressing at the same time that this achievement confirms that the Qatari youth, with their competences and achievements in all fields, are able to achieve the impossible. Sheikh Mohamed said he spent two months in his trip to the Himalayas to achieve a humanitarian goal, namely the collection of million dollars to support ROTA's educational projects in Nepal and to raise awareness of charitable work in general, noting that this trip helped him deliver the message of ROTA which seeks to enable everyone on earth enjoy the opportunity to make a difference in his community and in the world, using sport as a means of education. He noted that, four years ago he was dreaming of climbing the highest peaks of the world, "the Summit of Everest," adding that his success in achieving that recently has realized a major breakthrough in access to six peaks out of the seven highest peaks in world continents, hoping to soon succeed in climbing the 'Denali Summit' in Alaska to fully realize his dream.(QNA)
