Doha to Host 1st Regional Conference of International Federation for Library Associations

Doha, June 09 (QNA) - HE the Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari will open tomorrow at the Hilton Doha Hotel the 1st Regional Conference of the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA) on "the role of associations and national libraries in support of the freedom of access to information under the intellectual property rights". Taking part in the two-day conference are preventatives of 17 Arab countries including professionals and academics interested in freedom of access to information and intellectual property laws from Arab information studies bodies, such as Arab national libraries, documents and archives departments, associations, professional federations who will discuss the role of Arab national documents, archives, professional associations in the field of information and international and Arab authorities concerned with free access to information and intellectual property rights. The conference will discuss exceptions and limitations for libraries and the role of local library associations in the support of these exceptions to enable libraries serve their users in the best way possible. The conference will also address the legislations and regulations of libraries and their role in providing information, the role of library associations and unions in support of freedom of access to information, the protection of intellectual property and the availability of information in the digital environment.
