Obama may contribute to inter-Korean relations: unification minister

SEOUL, Nov. 5 (Yonhap) -- South Korean Unification Minister Kim Ha-joong said on Wednesday he expects the new U.S. administration led by Barak Obama to contribute positively to the promotion of peace on the Korean Peninsula and inter-Korean relations.

In a lecture at Yonsei University in Seoul, Kim said Obama's administration will
surely make a positive effort to resolve the North Korean nuclear problem and
improve U.S.-North Korean relations.
He said Obama's election is a significant and important event in the history of
the U.S., adding there will be considerable changes not only in the U.S., but
throughout the whole world.
In addition, Kim dismissed speculation that Pyongyang may try to intensify its
strategy of consolidating ties with U.S. and isolating South Korea as "groundless
worry."
