FIRE GUTS 50 HOUSES IN PESING GARDEN OF JAKARTA
Jakarta, Nov 06 (ANTARA) - At least 50 houses in Pesing Garden housing complex, North Kedoya, Kebun Jeruk sub-district, West Java, were gutted by fire on early morning of Thursday.
Information obtained from the location of the fire, the blaze was caused by an electricity short circuit which firstly engulfed Rahmad's house, said Sigit Prasetyo (30), the secretary of Pesing Garden housing complex.
The fire engulfed the houses at the time when many residents were asleep in early morning of Thursday. Practically they had no time to bring their items out of their guttedhouses, Sigit said.
"I was sleeping when the fire was engulfing my house and it was the scream that had actually awakened me from my sleep. I had no enough time to save my precious items. Now I am confused, because I don't know where to live," said Kholifah (30), another resident said.
At least 21 officers of Jakarta's fire brigade were deployed to the location of the fire, and they succeeded in putting out the fires after two hours. Till now there was no report on casualty while material losses were still unknown, said Sudjadi, the chief of the West Jakarta Fire Brigade.
According to him, at least 167 fire incidents with three casualties had happened in 2008 and they were mostly caused by electricity short circuit.
