Qatar Committed to Support Syrian People

Geneva, May 28 (QNA) - Qatar confirmed its full commitment to stand by the Syrian people who are living a great human tragedy, in order to ensure provision of health and humanitarian services to the largest possible number of affected people there. This came in a speech delivered by the Qatari delegation participating in the sixty-sixth session of the World Health Assembly, currently in session in Geneva under the item XVIII (progress reports) on "Strengthening the national capacity in the management of health emergencies, disasters, and enhancement of the resilience of health systems" for the period from May 2012 to April 2013. The Qatari delegation highlighted the directives of HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani for launching the fourth phase of humanitarian aid to Syrian refugees camps in Lebanon, at a cost of $ 25 million, which included provision of healthcare for about 60 thousand refugees, in addition to the establishment of a health center in Wadi Khaled district which receives 10 thousand patients per month to treat emergency cases, undergo surgery operations and the distribution of medicines to patients. The Qatari delegation called for coordination between the World Health Organization (WHO) and other humanitarian organizations in order to ensure the provision of humanitarian healthcare services to the greatest possible number of affected Syrian people, noting that the health services provided to those affected is not adequate in view of increasing needs, and constraints imposed by the Syrian regime on humanitarian workers in general.(QNA)
