Mongolia is expected to receive one million tourists by 2020
Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Last year, Mongolia received 476 thousand tourists, and this number is an increase by nine per cent in a decade.
It was showed by a survey conducted by the National Center of Tourism. It is projected that the number of tourists will reach over one million by the year 2020.
As of today, 710 tour camps are working nationwide. Tourists visit natural landscapes in Tov, Ovorkhangai, Khentii, Omnogobi and Khovsgol provinces and tour the birthplace of Chingis Khaan (Khentii aimag) and see the lifestyle of nomadic people.
One tourist stays in Mongolia for about two weeks, the survey shows. Moreover, a tourist in a group spends USD 190 a day, whereas an independent tourist—USD 120, and a backpacker—USD 77.
Mongolia was ranked 17th place by the index of adventure tourism among 164 countries in 2012. It has been released by the World Economic Forum (WEF). Mongolia also has been ranked 99th by the index of competitiveness of tourism sector.
