Abdullah Karom Appointed Director of the Arab Museum of Modern Art

Doha, May 26 (QNA) - Qatar Museums Authority announced today the appointment of Dr. Abdullah Karom as director of the Arab Museum of Modern Art. Dr. Karom will assume office as the new director of the museum on the first of next June to manage the museum and oversee its daily work. He will also oversee the planning of the museum's programmes including activities relating to artistic groups, educational programmes, research, the library, communications and publishing. Edward Dolman, Executive Director and Acting Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Museums Authority Edward Dolman welcomed the new Director of the Arab Museum of Modern Art, pointing out that Dr. Abdullah Carom has over twenty years of experience in the field of art. In remarks he gave in a statement issued by Qatar Museums Authority today, Dolman said Dr. Karom has organized and participated in the management of many international exhibitions and programs at various institutions around the world, hoping to contribute to the new administration in the development of "museum" and strengthen its position as a vital contribute to deepening public understanding of contemporary art in the local and international contexts. For his part, Dr. Abdullah Karom expressed pleasure for working with team of the Arab Museum of Modern Art, hoping to succeed in making the Museum a learning space for the museum staff and the public alike. In similar remarks the new director said "I started working on a plan of action for the museum which will include international standards to keep and display art collections and on the establishment of a new strategy dealing with international programmes and special projects," stressing on his quest to contribute to the promotion of the museum activity of "Museum," which is based on exhibitions and events celebrating Arab artists, and gives an Arab perspective on the art world of modern and contemporary.(QNA)
