Armenian Community accorded respect in Iran: Larijani

Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani said on Tuesday that Iranian Armenians are respected in Iran appreciating their coexistence with other citizens.

Larijani made the remarks in a meeting with Bishop of Armenian Orthodox Church in Cilici Aram I Keshishian.

The Islamic Republic of Iran supports the idea of dialogue among religions as a means to promote peace and tranquility throughout the crisis-stricken world, he said.

He underlined the need for paying due attention to the common grounds shared by various divine religions in order to utilize the potentials of religious understanding to help settle the crises.

The speaker reiterated that the global problems should be settled through dialogue and called for refraining from violence in the international community.

Larijani further briefed Keshishian on the Islamic Republic's great efforts to help restore tranquility and stability in Lebanon, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Archbishop Keshishian, for his part, expressed satisfaction with the peaceful co-existence of religious minorities in Iran and said the Armenian community plays active role in all the countries.

Referring to deep-rooted commonalties between Islam and Christianity, he said these common grounds can help solve the problems in the world.

On the latest developments in Lebanon, he appreciated Iran's great efforts to help promote dialogue among various political and ethnic groups in that country.

The Islamic Republic of Iran is considered as a real friend of Lebanon, he added./end
