INDONESIAN ENVOY PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO THAI KING
Jakarta, Nov 5 (ANTARA) - Indonesian Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Thailand Mohammad Hatta presented his credentials to Crown Prince Vajiralongkorn representing King Bhumibol Adulyadej at Ambara Villa, Dusit Palace, on Tuesday.
In his address, the Indonesian ambassador extended President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's warm greetings to King Bhumibol and the entire Thai people, Second Secretary of the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok Dionnisius Elvan Swasono said in an e-mail on Wednesday.
Swasono said the two countries had been cooperating closely for a long time in regional and international fora.
"Indonesia respects Thailand as the chairman of ASEAN and the host of the 14th ASEAN Summit in December 2009 when ASEAN member states are expected to endorse the implementation of the ASEAN Charter," he said.
Born in Jakarta on July 30, 1945, Ambassador Mohammad Hatta was previously a legislator , both in the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) and the House of Representatives (DPR), for 25 years.
Before taking up the ambassadorial position, he was a member of the House's Commission I that oversees defense, information and foreign affairs. In his capacity as a House member, he also became member of the Indonesian delegation to several international meetings such as in UN New York and UN-ESCAP Bangkok.
Indonesia and Thailand established diplomatic relations in March 1950 and have enjoyed cordial relations ever since.
