Yemen, IMO, IFRC in talks

GENEVA, Nov. 04 (Saba) - Deputy minister of Foreign Khalid Abdul Rahman al-Akwa'a
has met in Geneva with director general of the International Organization for
Migration IMO William Lacy Swing.

The meeting discussed Yemen's efforts in sheltering African refugees, particularly
Somali ones.

The meeting also reviewed the IOM activities in Yemen and burdens the influx of
these refugees lays on the country economic structure.

At the meeting, al-Akwa'a stressed the importance of supporting Yemen to deal with
the issues of African refugees and extended an invitation to Swing to visit Yemen.

On the other hand, al-Kwa'a met with the general secretary of the International
Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Othman Ebrahim and
discussed the issue of the rain calamity that his several parts of the republic.

The meeting assessed the role the federation may play to help the affected people in
the affected areas through rescue and rehabilitation processes.

The two maintained that there should be an independent system to take the
responsibility of restricting disasters as other countries have.
