First Middle East Healthcare Forum Opens Friday in Doha

Doha, May 14 (QNA) - The first Middle East Forum on Quality Improvement in Healthcare opens here Friday (May 17) at the Qatar National Convention Center (QNCC). The three-day forum is jointly hosted by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) and Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC). In her welcome message to the delegates posted on the website, HMC Managing Director Hanan Al Kuwari said, "The forum supports fully our ongoing work to deliver the safest and most effective care to our patients. This forum is the result of a wider collaboration with IHI, which is a recognized international leader in health and healthcare improvement and innovation." Among the key topics for discussion on the first day include, safety, leadership, innovation and transforming beside care. The official opening ceremony of the forum will be held on Saturday followed by a keynote address 'Improving Healthcare Quality'. This will be followed by five workshops covering topics like, reliability, reducing readmissions, ICU upgrades and obesity. The workshops on Sunday will cover topics like sustainability, diabetes care, quantitative improvement, strategies for managers and linking improvement science and academia. Among expert speakers listed for the forum are Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Inc., Sr. Vice President, Medicare Clinical Operations and Population Care, Dr Alide L. Chase; IHI President Emeritus and Senior Fellow Dr Donald M Berwick; Royal United Hospital, Bath, Associate Medical Director for Quality Improvement Carol Peden; IHI Vice President Patricia A. Rutherford; IHI MD and Vice President and Weill Cornell Medical College Assistant Professor of Medicine Kedar Mate and Rhode Island Quality Institute (RIQI) President and CEO Laura Adams among others.
