German rape case: Rohit Monserratte surrenders
Panaji, Nov 3 (PTI) Goa Education Minister Atanasio Monserratte's son Rohit Tuesday surrendered before Calangute police almost a month after he was accused of raping a German minor girl.
Accompanied by his father and a lawyer, the 21-year-old
Rohit surrendered before Police Inspector Tushar Vernekar at
12.45 noon.
Rohit, whose statement was recorded by the police on
November 1, went missing after the German mother lodged a
complaint against him on October 2.
As per the assurance given to the police, the Minister
handed over his elder son to the police Tuesday.
Rohit, clad in jeans and shirt, arrived in a red beacon
car along with his father.
"I will move heavens to prove that my son is innocent.
He is innocent," Monserratte told reporters outside Calangute
police station here.
Monserratte said his son is facing all the troubles only
because he is a son of a politician.
"This is just a frame up to actually pin me down," he
said.
The Minister said "all legal brains would be brought into
to help Rohit get out of the crisis".
"Justice will prevail and truth will come out," he said.
Monserratte alleged that the victim girl's lawyer has
been changing his statements almost everyday.
"It seems that during a press conference, he has said
that the girl's deposition is not complete," the Minister
said.
Senior police officials confirmed that Rohit will be
arrested soon.
There is no clarity on police's move against Goa Public
Works Department Minister Churchill Alemao's nephew Warren who
is also accused of sexually assaulting the minor girl.
Goa police will file an affidavit before the Goa Bench
of the Bombay High Court in the second half of the day
Tuesday.
Earlier, the High Court had taken suo motto cognisance
of the case and had fixed the next hearing on November 5. PTI
