QAFCO Mulls Number of Developmental Initiatives
Doha, May 08 (QNA) - Deputy chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Qatar Fertiliser Company (QAFCO),Khalifa Abdullah Al Suwaidi,said that the company now is studying a number of the developmental initiatives to raise the efficiency of energy and increase and improve the production and its outputs.
In a press conference he held here Wednesday to shed light on IFA Green Leaf Award for Excellence in Safety, Health and Environment in fertilizer production, which was received by QAFCO few days ago from the International Federation of Fertilizers during the international summit for safety in 2013, which was held in Santiago.
He noted that is seeking to develop its QAFCO 1 and QAFCO 2 projects as well as using the advanced technology in its (GAFOs 4-5and 6) to improve the usage of energy, transferring to the production of granular urea which is considered as more suitable for the modest agricultural techniques that had been adopted by the developed countries instead of crystalline urea.
He pointed out that this development will lead eventually to raise efficiency of the energy in ammonia 1 and 2 projects so that it consumes 33.5 GJ per ton instead of 46.5 GJ per ton, without specifying a timetable for the entry into force of this development.
Al Suwaidi confirmed that the company is working to benefiting from the manufacturing of the urea from substance of sulfur available in Qatar in big amounts, expecting that this product will be desirable universally. (QNA)
