WEST JAVA ULEMA TO MOBILIZE SOLIDARITY TO FREE AL-AQSHA
Bandung, West Java, Nov. 4 (ANTARA) - Ulema (Muslim scholars) in West Java agree to mobilize solidarity for the liberation of Al-Aqsha Mosque, one of Islam's most sacred mosques, from Israeli colonialism, according to a recommendation adopted at an international seminar here.
The recommendation was issued by the international seminar on "Al-Agsha Hagguna" (Al-Aqsha Our Right) organized by the West Java chapter of Jama'ah Muslimin (Hizbullah) early November, a press statement from Ali Farkhan Tsani of the seminar's organizing committee, said here on Tuesday.
An Al-Aqsha Working Group would make the seminar's recommendation known to the public, collect funds, set up a cooperation network and collect a million signatures to support the the Al-Aqsha liberation effort, he said.
Meanwhile, Sonny Sugema, a coordinator of the Al-Aqsha Working Group, said at least 1,000 people consisting of West Java ulema and journalists would be sent to Al-Aqsha mosque in East Jerusalem next year to join a mass prayer service.
"Al Qur'an, specifically in Chapter (Surah) of Al-Isra and the Prophet's Hadist (Sayings) on the pilgrimage to Al-Aqsha, underscores the importance of Muslims to deeply honor and make AL-Aqsha Mosque prosperous," he said.
Among speakers at the seminar on Al-Aqsha which was held in Bandung were Taher Hamad of the Palestinian embassy in Jakarta, Dr Mahmoud Al-Khatib of the Al-Quds Institute of Yemen, and Dr Datok Abdul Ghani Shamsudin, president of the Souuth East Asian Ulema Secretariat.
The Prophet Muhammad once said, "There are only three mosques for which you should embark on a journey to visit : the sacred mosque (Mecca, Saudi Arabia), this mosque of mine (Medina, Saudi Arabia), and the mosque of Al-Aqsa (Jerusalem).
The prophet visited Al Aqsha during his night journey and ascension (called Isra' and Mi'raj). Muslims believe that one evening, the angel Gabriel miraculously took the Prophet from the Sacred Mosque in Mecca to the Furthest Mosque (Al-Aqsa) in Jerusalem.
