MILITARY, POLICE TO STEP UP SECURITY FOLLOWING ASSASSINATION THREATS

Jakarta, Nov 4 (ANTARA) - The Indonesian military (TNI) and the national police are to take intensive security measures in light of assassination threats against President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Vice President Jusuf Kalla, the attorney general and other state officials, TNI Chief Gen Djoko Santoso said,
"We will prepare the best possible security measures starting from planning to implementation," Santoso said after attending a coordination meeting on political, legal and security affairs here Tuesday.
He said he had already ordered the TNI rank and file, including the regional commands, to conduct coordination with the regional police commands in their respective regions.
Earlier, he mentioned about security rearrangement for the president, the vice president, the presidential and vice presidential candidates ahead of the 2009 general elections and the execution of three Bali bombers early this month.
"It will be evaluated by the chief of the presidential security unit and the results will be reported to me immediately," he said.
The assasination threats against the president, the vice president, the attorney general and the minister of justice were launched on the www.foznawarabbilkakbah.com. website
The threats were addressed to state officials considered responsible for the government's plan to execute the Bali bombers.
In response to the threats, the government has said it would act firmly against those found to have issued the threats.
Presidential spokesman Andi Mallarangeng said at the presidential office on Tuesday that spreading such threats against the head of state and other state officials through a website was an illegal act.
"Such an act will certainly be dealt with and we will seize those who have done it. It is the duty of the state security agencies such as the police and others to catch them," he said.
He said if they were found, sanctions would be given to them because "their act of threatening to kill or spreading threats of the kind is illegal."
