BALI TOURISM BOARD SUPPORTS JUDICIAL REVIEW OF PORNOGRAPHY LAW
Denpasar, Nov 4 (ANTARA) - The Bali Tourism Board (BTB) which consists of tourism industry practitioners supports the Bali people's plan to request a judicial review on the pornography law passed by the central parliament recently, a spokesman said.
"As part of Bali's community, we support the judicial review plan. If the governor and the provincial legislative assembly oppose the pornography law, so do we," BTB Chairman Ngurah Wijaya said here Tuesday.
He said the House of Representatives (DPR)'s decision to pass the law last October 30 had caused disappointment in the tourism industry in Bali because the law was meddling in people's personal affairs and generalizing the norms of different communities.
The pornography law would erase the colorful diversity of Indonesia in the eyes of the global world whereas Indonesia should actually preserve its different national characteristics in the face of globalization, he said.
"The kebaya (traditional clothing worn by females) is an example of a cultural heritage. But under the pornography law, women who wear the kebaya will probably feel uneasy because it is considered sexy. Such a condition will ruin Indonesian culture," he said.
