Qatargas Reinforces Safety Culture at Fourth "Safety Day" Celebration

Doha, April 30 (QNA) - The Qatargas Jetty Boil-Off Gas (JBOG) Project team has celebrated its fourth Safety Day at Ras Laffan Industrial City (RLIC). Several activities, aimed at promoting a safe working environment as well as the Incident and Injury Free (IIF) culture, were held at the JBOG Project Global Village camp in Ras Laffan Industrial City, Qatargas said in a press release issued on Tuesday. Commenting on the celebration, Qatargas Chief Operating Officer for Engineering and Ventures Sheikh Khalid Bin Abdulla Al-Thani highlighted safety as a core value for Qatargas and an integral part of the company's culture. "The JBOG project has embraced Qatargas' "Incident and Injury Free" program from day one. The project recently achieved yet another significant safety milestone of 14 million man-hours without any Lost Time Incident (LTI). This world class performance is the result of the continuous and proven commitment to safety by the entire JBOG project management and workforce. We continue to remain committed to our objective of ensuring that all our employees and contractors go home safely, every day. The JBOG Safety Day celebrations coincided with the news that Qatar Petroleum has awarded a HSE Excellence Award to Qatargas for the outstanding safety performance of the JBOG Project." For his part, JBOG Project Manager Bashir Mirza added: "The JBOG Project Team and our construction contractors have worked extremely hard day after day to keep around 3000 workers safe from injury, over a period of 1000 days. Our team has fully utilized the Incident and Injury Free behavioral safety program as well as the JBOG Golden Rules to steadily improve our safe working behaviors. The fourth JBOG Safety Day was celebrated to express our gratitude to the workers for keeping themselves and their fellow workers safe during tough and challenging construction activities. The JBOG Project Team and its contractors will continue to be vigilant until the last project person goes home safely." Activities for the day included contractor's safety display booths, safety quiz contests, sports activities, and awards and recognition for demonstrating safety excellence. Winners of the poster-making contest, the best safety booth and the safety quizzes were rewarded. Several prizes were given away through a raffle draw as two live bands played popular tunes well into the late evening. (QNA)
