PRINCE CHARLES RECEIVED BY YOGYAKARTA GOVERNOR

Yogyakarta, Nov 4 (ANTARA) - Visiting Prince Charles of Britain and his entourage arrived at Yogyakarta's Palace at noon on Tuesday and was received by Governor Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X.

On the occasion the sultan was accompanied by his wife, GKR Hemas, his brothers, KGPH Hadiwinoto and GBPH Prabukusumo, and their wives.
After the reception, Prince Charles and the sultan held a closed-door meeting and later witnessed a Golek Menak Rengganis traditional dance performed by palace dancers.
Before visiting Yogyakarta, the Prince of Wales met with several religious leaders at a Conference on Religion and the Environment organized byh the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Islamic organization in Jakarta on Monday.
Prince Charles was at the conference, attended by religious leaders from several regions in the country, for only about 15 minutes after giving a lecture at the State Palace earlier in the day.
He arrived at the conference at around 3 pm, welcomed by NU chief Hasyim Muzadi who then introduced him to a number of religious leaders present at the conference, including Environment Minister Rachmat Witoelar.
He chatted with the religious leaders for a while before leaving the venue.
The conference discussed the readiness of religious leaders to participate in efforts to inform the people about the danger of climate change and to appeal to the people to conduct mitigation and adaptation.
During his visit to Indonesia, the prince raised two issues namely climate change and inter-faith dialog.
He said in his explanation that Indonesia as an archipelagic country was very vulnerable to the increasingly unfriendly environmental development , including a prediction that in the next five years the earth's ice caps would totally vanish in the summer.
He said "the rise of the sea level has affected the life of the people living on the coastal regions in Java and other places."
Prince Charles also said Indonesia faced a great challenge with regard to protecting and conserving its tropical forests. In view of that he called on developed countries to give incentives to countries that had tropical forests.
