PT TIMAH CHALKS UP Q3 NET PROFIT OF RP1.491,7 BILLION

Jakarta, Nov 4 (ANTARA) - PT. Timah (Persero) Tbk booked a net profit of Rp1.491,7 billion or Rp296 per share in the third quarter of 2008, up 18 percent from Rp 1.264,5 billion in the same period a year earlier.

This was attributed to higher average tin prices enjoyed, according to a press statement of PT Timah here Tuesday, on the company's unaudited consolidated Financial Statement for the period ended September 30, 2008.
During the year 2008, the tin price at the LME increased from US$ 16.055 per tonne at the beginning of the year to US$ 17.175 per tonne at the end of September 2008 averaging US$ 20,306.04 per tonne.
The tin price in LME stood at US$13.933,74 per tonne in the same period last year.
The average price received by the company up to the third quarter of 2008 was US$ 20,186 per tonne or 44 percent higher than in the same period in 2007 when the figure was US$ 13,974 per tonne.
However, the sales volume of refined tin up to the third quarter of 2008 reached 34,045 metric tonnes, or 28% lower than 47,270 metric tonnes at the end of the third quarter in 2007.
Tin-in=concentrate produced by the company's inland mines at the end of the third quarter of 2008 was 27,765 metric tonnes or 33% lower than production in the same period in 2007 that was recorded at 41,743 metric tonnes.
Offshore production was up 19 percent from 9,108 sn tonnes at the end of third quarter 2007 to became 10,820 sn tonnes in the same period of 2008.
Total production of tin-in-concentrate at the end of the third quarter in 2008 was 38,585 tonnes of Sn or 24 percent lower than in the same period in 2007 when the figure was 50,851 tonnes of Sn.
Total net sales until the end of third quarter of 2008 amounted to Rp. 6,894.8 billion, an increase of 5 percent from Rp.6,583 billion in the same period in 2007.
