QSA Chief Commends Human Developments Efforts
Doha, April 28 (QNA) - HE Chairman of Qatar Statistics Authority Sheikh Hamad bin Jabor bin Jassim Al Thani said Sunday that Qatar was setting the example to the world in terms of Human Development thanks to the wise leadership of Qatar which considers human development as a pillar for sustainable development.
HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jabor bin Jassim Al Thani was speaking at a ceremony organized by the Statistics Authority after Qatar was selected as the top Arab country on the annual International Human Development Report 2013. HE the Minister of Education and Higher Education Saad bin Ibrahim Al Mahmoud, who is also the Secretary-General of the Supreme Education Council (SEC) attended the ceremony. The State of Qatar was ranked 36th worldwide in this year's report.
HE the Chairman of the Statistics Authority noted that Qatar's advanced position was not a surprise, praising the leadership of HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani which focused on Human development as a main component of its development strategy. This was clear when human development was regarded as one of the five pillars of the Qatar National Vision 2030, he added.
The report relies on indications in the education, health and the standard of living. The relationship between those three indicators and human development was directly proportional, HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jabor bin Jassim Al Thani.
In terms of the education sector, the Chairman of the Statistics Authority said that the State of Qatar focused heavily on establishing a large number of schools in different areas across Qatar. In addition to developing the educational syllabi of schools.
In terms of health services, HE the Chairman of the Statistics Authority said that the State of Qatar was looking to improve the health standard for the citizens. The average age of people in Qatar have risen from 78.4 years in 2011 to 78.5 in 2013, Director of the Diplomatic Institute Hassan Bin Ibrahim Al Mohannadi said in the ceremony. In addition to that, the 2011-2016 National Development Strategy includes heavy investment in the health sector which raised the standard of health in the country.
As for the standard of living, it has markedly improved according to HE QSA Chairman. The State of Qatar is the world's leading country in terms of GDP per capita, which reflects the luxurious standard of living the people enjoy in the State of Qatar. According to Al Mohannadi, GDP per Capita in Qatar has risen from $82978 in 2011 to $87478 in 2013. (QNA)
