GUS DUR THREATENS TO BOYCOT NEXT YEAR'S GENERAL ELECTIONS

Bogor, Nov 3 (ANTARA) - The founder of the National Awakening Party (PKB), KH. Abdurrachman alias Gus Dur has threatened to boycot next year's general election if the government does not accommodate the party under his leadership.

Gus Dur said he would wait for the issuance of a court decision on his appeal on the PKB's internal conflict until November 18, 2008.

"If by November 18, 2008 there is no decision from the government, I will announce to the press that my party will boycot the polls and ask the people not to use their voting right," Gus Dur said here on Monday.

"Earlier, I appealed to the community not to use their voting right. But if the government is again involved in fraud, I urge them not to use their voting right up to 75 percent," said Gus Dur who is also former chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulema organization.
If no one wants to use their voting right, practically there will be no legislative members. Consequently, the state budget can no longer be realized.

"If there are no legislative members, the government could be categorized as being in a state of death. That is the condition to be faced if PKB is not to be accommodated," Gus Dur said.

Gus Dur saw that the government was not objective because it did not listen to the aspiration of all parties.
