Qatar ASGHAL to Plans USD 11 Billion Projects

Doha, April 23 (QNA) - The President of the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) Eng. Nasser Ali Al-Mawlawi, said that Ashghal is to tender several projects with total value of USD 11 billion, as a part of a plan that includes USD 30 billion projects to be executed in 5 to 7 years. This came in his presentation on Ashghal's plan for the coming years, before the 8th World Chambers Congress currently being held in Doha. Ashghal has, as well, 216 road projects with a total value of USD 14 billion, Eng. Mawlawi said adding that there are plans to construct 120 buildings between 2013 and 2014 with a total value of about USD 4 billion. Eng. Mawlawi said that in order to implement infrastructure projects, the Public Works Authority has contracted with the best companies in the world as strategic partners in the fields of design and project management, and that the work is assigned to engineering and construction companies through public tenders. He explained that the bidding system used in Ashghal awards tenders worth less than USD 27 million for local Qatari businesses, tender with value between USD 27 to 54 million for foreign companies with more than 51 percent Qatari investment and door shall be open to all local and foreign companies regarding the tenders in excess of that .
