Samsung to release Windows-based smart phone in Korea

SEOUL, Nov. 3 (Yonhap) -- Samsung Electronics Co., the world's second-largest mobile phone manufacturer, said Monday it plans to release a smart phone that operates on Microsoft Corp.'s mobile operating system.

The company held a product event of the model SCH-M490, nicknamed Omnia, in
Seoul. The device, with a 3.3-inch display, runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 and
supports a variety of PC-quality multimedia functionalities, such as
digital-media broadcasting and Internet connection.
The model, which has been released in 43 nations since June, will be released
domestically by the end of the month, Samsung said.
Additional built-in functionalities were developed jointly with SK Telecom Co.,
the nation's largest wireless carrier. The model comes with a 16-gigabyte storage
space, Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity and global positioning functionality.
