FLOOD INUNDATES KAMPUNG MELAYU, JAKARTA, ON MONDAY
Jakarta, Nov. 3 (ANTARA) - A number of houses in Kampung Melayu, Jatinegara sub district, East Jakarta, were inundated on Monday following the overflowing of the Ciliwung River.
The flood caused 10 to 20 houses to stand in water reaching a height of 1 to 1.5 meters.
The Ciliwung River overflowed at around 5 am local time on Monday although it had not rained in Jakarta, according to Husni, a local resident of Kampung Melayu.
"This morning there was no rain. But the river overflowed because the water came from Bogor where it has been raining heavily," he said.
Meanwhile, a number of houses in Kampung Pulo, East Jakarta, were also inundated by up to 2 meters of water.
"We are concerned about this condition. We are worried over possible diseases such as diarrhea, skin problems, and dengue fever," he said.
