UNDP to support rebuilding schemes in eastern provinces

SAYOON, Nov. 02 (Saba) - The UN Development Program UNDP is ready to support plans to rebuild the rain-affected areas in the eastern provinces, the UNDP representative has said.

The announcement was made at the meeting which gathered deputy premier for internal
affairs Sadiq Ameen Abu Ras with Selva Ramachandra, the UNDP representative in
Yemen.

The meeting dealt with mechanisms of support to be provided by the UNDP as well as
organizations working on providing aid for the affected people.

Abu Ras reviewed the effects of the devastating rains that hit the provinces in the
last week killing more than 91 people and more than 31 are still missing, and
assessed the government efforts to deal with the catastrophe.

He noted that heavy efforts have been exerted to spray swamps full of dead animals
which may turn into a real health disaster as well as helping citizens find their
properties amid destruction caused by rains.

For her part, Ramachandra reviewed the role the UNDP will take to provide aid in the
affected areas through three phases, first and second are manifested by rescue and
sheltering and the third will be through providing technical assistance to return
situation in these areas as normal as it was before the rains.
